I was involved with youth soccer for the JUSA organization here in Placentia, California for almost 13 years. During that time I refereed, coached, and served on the governing board. I really believe that we all have an obligation to give something back to the communities in which we live. I think, however, that in my coaching youth soccer I got far more than I gave.
When I first got involved, I didn't have any kids in the program. Heck, my oldest daughter was an infant at the time. I started out coaching "clinic" level kids (4 through 6 year old kids). I enjoyed it so much, that I ended up coaching 12 clinic teams.
Some of the kids I coached (on either the Lazers or the Thundercats) went on to be soccer stars. They played on championship teams here in Placentia, for their colleges, or for club teams. I am in the process of collecting as much information about these kids as possible. If you were on one of my teams, know someone who was on one of my teams, or has information that would be of interest, please e-mail me at:
Remember... being a star is not confined to the soccer field. Outstanding scholastic achievement, social responsibility, honor, commitment, and integrity are also the things that identify stars... both on and off the playing field. If you are a former team member, please let me know how you are doing.
